Your private consultation with Dr. Washton will cover a wide range of topics including your alcohol/drug use, other life issues, and your readiness for change. Based on this extensive interview, Dr. Washton will provide you with helpful feedback, discuss treatment options, and offer recommendations for taking the next step.
Individualized Treatment Planning
Dr. Washton will work collaboratively with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. This plan may include individual therapy, group therapy, or a combination of the two, depending on what you need and what seems to make the most sense If you are already involved with another therapist or psychiatrist, Dr. Washton will gladly coordinate your treatment with them while you are receiving his help for issues more directly related to your substance use.
Most clients begin with focused individual sessions to help you initiate change and build a foundation for moving forward. Some continue with individual therapy only, others transition from individual to group therapy, while still others continue with both individual and group therapy. Individual therapy focuses not only on helping you change your substance use behavior, but also helps you to develop a clearer understanding of the forces that have brought you to this point and to work through the underlying emotional issues that keep you stuck in repeating cycles of substance use and other harmful behaviors.
Dr. Washton leads several small private group sessions each week — some in the afternoon, others in the evening. The groups are limited to 6-8 members, typically executives and professionals. You can attend one, two, or three group sessions per week depending on your work schedule and how much support and structure you need. Group therapy is a powerful therapeutic tool that can be used in combination with individual therapy or as a stand-alone treatment. Participating in a small private support group can help to amplify and accelerate your therapeutic progress especially if you are also involved in ongoing individual therapy.
