Treatment Tailored for You
We are a specialized private practice, not an alcoholism or drug addiction treatment program. Treatment here is individually tailored and designed to meet the needs of high-functioning men and women including executives and professionals having problems with alcohol, opioids, cocaine, or other substances.
It all starts with a private evaluation by Dr. Washton, a widely recognized addiction psychologist and book author. Together, you will review your history of alcohol/drug use, other life problems, and previous attempts to deal with these issues including what has helped and what has not.
He will help you choose an initial treatment goal that makes the most sense for you whether that goal is to immediately stop all alcohol/drug use for now, gradually reduce your substance use toward a goal of stopping altogether, or learn how to moderate your drinking within safer limits and keep it that way.
Whether you are having problems with alcohol, opioids, marijuana, or other drugs, Dr. Washton will design a personalized treatment plan that meets your individual needs. Unlike addiction treatment programs that use a “one-size-fits-all” approach, Dr. Washton tailors the treatment to fit each person’s needs and circumstances. He recognizes that there are many different types of alcohol and drug problems ranging from problematic use (the ‘heavy drinker‘) to full-blown addiction; and, that other mental health issues such as depression and anxiety often intertwined with substance use also need to be addressed. He also recognizes that in combination with therapy, medication can help to reduce cravings and prevent relapse.
What is best for you?
Individual therapy, Group Therapy, and/or Medication?
With over four decades of experience as an addiction psychologist, Dr. Washton has learned that no single approach is best for everyone. Some people do best with individual therapy, others with group therapy, and still others with a combination of both individual and group therapy. Some may also benefit from medications that can help to reduce cravings, prevent relapse, and alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. Suboxone and Naltrexone, for example, are highly effective medications for treating addiction to prescription opioids such as oxycodone and hydrocodone.
Dr. Washton offers a choice of treatment options that include individual therapy sessions dedicated exclusively to your own personal issues and/or small group sessions that provide a unique forum for obtaining support and advice from other high-functioning people grappling with similar problems. There are abstinence support groups for people who want to improve their coping skills and prevent a return to alcohol/drug use and there are harm reduction (moderation) groups for people who want to reduce their alcohol and/or marijuana use to a level that is less likely to cause problems.
Flexible, individualized, totally confidential care
People in high-pressure professional careers — whether in law, finance, medicine, etc. — may turn to alcohol/drugs at the end of a hard day to relieve stress or celebrate an accomplishment. Alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs provide instant relaxation and stress relief. Problems develop when substances are used increasingly as coping tools to “self-medicate” negative moods and emotions.
Our personalized treatment approach is tailor-made for business executives, attorneys, and other discerning clients who want flexible, individualized treatment that is private, personalized, and individually-tailored.
We are a specialized practice, not an addiction clinic or program
Dr. Washton’s practice is not an addiction clinic or program, but rather a specialized private practice dedicated to treating high-functioning adults. Dr. Washton is a world-renowned addiction psychologist, book author, and substance abuse treatment innovator with a long track record of success in treating alcohol and drug abuse since 1975.
We offered treatment for physicians and other healthcare professionals
Dr. Washton understands the unique dilemmas faced by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals grappling with their own alcohol and drug problems. For over three decades, he has provided specialized, totally confidential treatment that addresses the needs of physicians, pharmacists, dentists, nurses, physician assistants, podiatrists, psychologists and others with high-pressure careers and jobs.
