Strategies for mindful moderate drinking
If you are concerned about your drinking and want to reduce your alcohol consumption rather stop drinking completely, we can help.
The Drink Smartly Workshop is for people who want to learn how to moderate their drinking and keep it within safer limits. It is an educational and skills-training workshop, not an alcoholism treatment program. In the workshop, you will learn a variety of practical strategies and techniques to help you take charge of when, where, and how much you drink. The central goal of the workshop is to help you break free of habitual unhealthy drinking patterns and learn how to drink more mindfully and more moderately.
We will help you take a closer look your drinking patterns, set realistic goals, and then learn how to moderate your alcohol intake within safer limits.
An alcohol harm reduction program
Designed specifically for non-addicted drinkers, this research-tested program uses proven harm reduction strategies to help you take charge of what, when, and much you drink.
You can attend the Drink Smartly workshop on its own or in conjunction with one on one session. This is an educational workshop (not a therapy or self-help group), that will provide you with valuable actionable information without pressuring you to make a commitment to change.
The program consists of 8-12 weekly workshop meetings, each beginning with a brief lecture followed by open discussion to enhance the personal relevance of the material and accelerate the learning process. Participants are asked to keep a digital drinking log, monitor their BAC levels, and complete selected readings and brief homework assignments.
For maximum effect, the moderate drinking techniques described in the workshop can be supplemented by Sinclair Method treatment with naltrexone, a non-addictive medication shown to be effective in reducing excessive drinking.
If you are interested in participating in the Drink Smartly program with or without Sinclair Method naltrexone treatment, please contact Dr. Washton to schedule your initial consultation.
